Eine Burg fasziniert Jung und Alt. In unseren Vorstellungen lebten dort tollkühne Ritter und charmante Burgfräulein. Aber wie gestaltete sich der Alltag auf den unterfränkischen Burgen tatsächlich? Waren sie Schauplätze von Ritterturnieren und Orte festlicher Gastmähler? Oder muss man sich den Alltag auf den Burgen ganz anders vorstellen?
Schon von weitem sichtbar thront die Karlsburg auf einem Felssporn über dem Main. Auf Basis der Wanderausstellung „Rund um die Burg“ des Bezirks Unterfranken setzt der Historische Verein Karlstadt seinen Schwerpunkt auf die sagenumwobene Karlsburg bei Karlstadt am Main und ergänzt die Ausstellung mit eigenen Exponaten. Wie sah die ursprüngliche Burg aus? Wie war sie ausgestattet und wie lebten die Menschen darin? Wann sind Anfang und Ende der einst großen Anlage anzunehmen? Diese und viele weitere Fragen beantwortet die Ausstellung und präsentiert ein detailgetreues Burgenmodell des Hochmittelalters, Fundobjekte und Original-Säulenreste des Burgenareals.
Interessierte, die Freude daran haben, der Karlsburg und anderen unterfränkischen Burgen mit allen Sinnen nachzuspüren und in die Welt der Türme, Tore und Wehrmauern einzutauchen, sind herzlich eingeladen. Themeninseln wenden sich unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten zu – es geht unter anderem um die Küche und die Versorgung der Burgbewohner, um das Wohnen, um Sagen, Geschichten und Wappen. Die „großen und kleinen“ Besucher erwarten bühnenartig begehbare Aktionsräume mit zahlreichen Mitmachstationen „Rund um die Burg“ – darunter eine mittelalterliche Schreibwerkstatt, ein Ofenkachelpuzzle oder eine Vorlesestation.
